Hazard opens his goal-scoring account

“I’m thrilled with the goal. I’ve been waiting for this moment and now it’s happened”, said the Belgian forward.

Real Madrid got the better of Red Bull Salzburg in a clash which saw Eden Hazard play a crucial role, scoring his first goal for the Whites with a wonderful effort which was enough to give Zidane’s men the win at the Red Bull Arena.

The Belgian forward said a few words following the final whistle: “When you’re out on the pitch, you want to win the game and being a forward, you want to score goals.

I’d been waiting for this moment for the last five games and it’s happened today. I’m very pleased”.

“It’s still preseason, but I think we’ve got more energy now. We’ve still got another ten days before our first competitive game so we have to focus and keep working hard.

Our aim is to be ready for next week, we can’t wait to start LaLiga so we’re training and practicing hard”.

Zidane Says It was important to put on a display like this

“We were disciplined and showed intensity against a tough side”, said the Whites’ coach.

Zidane spoke to Realmadrid TV at the end of their win over Red Bull Salzburg in their sixth preseason game.

The madridista coach reflected: “I’m really pleased. We put in a good performance, that’s why we came here.

We’re going to do great things this season and now it’s important to carry on with our preseason preparation because there’s still another game before LaLiga kicks off.

We’re gradually getting ready and we’re better every day. That was confirmed by today’s match”.

“I value the team’s efforts because it’s not easy and it was important to put on a display like this against a tough side. There are no small teams.

If you’re not focused, any team can make life difficult. Today we were disciplined and showed intensity.

We struggled a bit more in the second half but we’re happy to have won the game”.

August 8, 2019 Madrid’s Asensio undergoes successful knee surgery

Madrid’s Asensio undergoes successful knee surgery

Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio underwent successful surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus in his left knee.

Asensio ruptured his ACL and external meniscus in a blow to Madrid’s season in the International Champions Cup clash with Arsenal last month.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury after coming on as a second-half substitute in Madrid’s penalty shoot-out victory at FedExField in Maryland.

“The operation was carried out by doctor Manuel Leyes, under the supervision of the Real Madrid medical services,” a Madrid statement read. “Asensio will remain in hospital until he is well enough to be discharged. From that point on, his recovery program will begin.”

While Asensio had surgery on Wednesday, Madrid continued their LaLiga preparations with a 1-0 win over Salzburg.

Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the match as he opened his account for Madrid after arriving from Premier League side Chelsea.

Madrid – who finished third in LaLiga last season – will face Roma on Sunday before opening their 2019-20 campaign away to Celta Vigo on August 17.

Reflecting on the match, Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane said: “I’m really pleased. We put in a good performance, that’s why we came here. We’re going to do great things this season and now it’s important to carry on with our pre-season preparation because there’s still another game before LaLiga kicks off. We’re gradually getting ready and we’re better every day. That was confirmed by today’s match.

August 8, 2019 Brazil star Gabriel Jesus handed two-month international ban

Brazil star Gabriel Jesus handed two-month international ban

Brazil star Gabriel Jesus has been handed a two-month international ban by CONMEBOL for his behaviour during the Copa America final last month.

Jesus scored and provided an assist before being sent off in Brazil’s 3-1 win over Peru at the Maracana on July 7.

The Manchester City forward remonstrated with the referee after receiving a second yellow card before pushing the VAR monitor and crying in the tunnel.

CONMEBOL announced a two-month ban for Jesus on Wednesday, a statement saying “the player is suspended to play official and friendly matches with his national team in that period of time”.

Jesus was also fined $30,000 and is set to miss friendlies against Colombia and Peru next month, but has seven days to appeal the sanctions.

Meanwhile, Copa hosts and champions Brazil were fined $15,000 and warned for the behaviour of their fans.

It has been a busy period post-Copa for CONMEBOL, with Argentina star Lionel Messi and Chile’s Gary Medel also receiving bans and fines.

August 8, 2019 Lyon president, Aulas says, PSG have to keep Neymar

Lyon president, Aulas says, PSG have to keep Neymar

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has told Paris Saint-Germain to do whatever it takes to keep Neymar.

Neymar, 27, is heavily linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 champions this close season, with a return to Barcelona mooted just two years after his €222million switch.

While the Brazil star staying at PSG would only make Thomas Tuchel’s men stronger, Aulas said they needed to keep the forward.

“It’s embarrassing for Ligue 1 if at one point the TV rights bidding was done with visibility that included Neymar,” he told Le Parisien on Wednesday.

“He was before at Barca. With a very big cheque, he arrived in Paris. I think PSG have to do what it takes to keep him.

“But as president of OL, I am in a bad position to judge.”

Lyon has gone through plenty of change in the off-season, with Sylvinho replacing Bruno Genesio at the helm and Juninho arriving as sporting director.

The likes of Ferland Mendy (Real Madrid), Tanguy Ndombele (Tottenham) and captain Nabil Fekir (Real Betis) have been sold from the squad that finished third in Ligue 1 last season.

Aulas hopes his club can close the gap to PSG, but warned they needed time.

“In the medium term, yes [Lyon can compete with PSG]. We want to play a role. We will continue to invest. The goal is to get closer to PSG,” he said.

“But the first year will be the hardest. You have to be patient. It is a project of three to five years. Before, it’s illusory.

“The deadline of 2022, given the budget gap between the two clubs, must be reasonable.”

August 7, 2019 Romelu Lukaku en route to Milan ahead of reported Inter move

Romelu Lukaku en route to Milan ahead of reported Inter move

Romelu Lukaku took a giant step towards joining Inter after his agent confirmed the Manchester United striker is en route to Milan.

Lukaku’s future has been one of the biggest sagas this off-season amid interest from Inter and Serie A champions Juventus.

Initially linked to Inter, Lukaku reportedly agreed a deal with Juventus until Paulo Dybala’s reluctance to move in the opposite direction scuppered a transfer to Turin.

However, Inter head coach Antonio Conte – who missed out on signing Lukaku to United in 2017 during his time as Chelsea boss – is now finally set to get his man for a reported €75.9million (£70m) plus add-ons.

Lukaku’s agent Federico Pastorello posted a picture to Instagram with the pair on a plane and the caption read: “Ready to take off …. direction Milan!!! @inter… we are coming.”

Belgium international Lukaku, who has acknowledged a desire to play in Italy, scored 12 Premier League goals in 2018-19.

The 26-year-old – contracted to United until 2022 – scored 15 goals across all competitions as United finished sixth in the Premier League and lost to Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals last season.

August 7, 2019 Arsenal dismiss Everton’s £30m bid for midfielder Alex Iwobi

Arsenal dismiss Everton’s £30m bid for midfielder Alex Iwobi

Arsenal has rejected a £30m bid from Everton for midfielder Alex Iwobi, Sky Sports News understands.

The 23-year-old is under contract at the Emirates until 2022 and made 35 Premier League appearances last season, scoring three goals and assisting seven.

However, Sky sources understand Everton are expected to return with an improved offer before the transfer window closes at 5 pm on Thursday

Meanwhile, Everton has ended efforts to sign Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.

It is understood Everton are now considering alternative targets after their second bid of £36.7m was turned down on Tuesday.

However, one midfielder who is expected to be on the move is James McCarthy after Crystal Palace agreed of a fee of £8.5m with Everton for his services.

August 7, 2019 David Luiz skips Chelsea training as Arsenal consider the late-window offer

David Luiz skips Chelsea training as Arsenal consider the late-window offer

David Luiz has sensationally skipped Chelsea training on the penultimate day of the transfer window as Arsenal consider a move for the defender.

The Brazil international was expected at the Blues’ Cobham training ground as normal on Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener against Manchester United.

But Goal can confirm the former Paris Saint-Germain star was nowhere to be seen, with the Gunners understood to be keen on bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.

No official bid has been placed yet, but with Arsenal running out of time to bolster their defence ahead of the transfer window closing for Premier League clubs at 5 pm BST (12 pm ET) on Thursday and considering David Luiz’s actions, it would be surprising if negotiations were not opened.

The Gunners have been in the market for a center-back all summer, and despite signing William Saliba, his loan move back to Saint-Etienne has seen them push to try to sign RB Leipzig’s £70 million-rated Dayot Upamecano and Juventus’ Daniele Rugani.

Laurent Koscielny’s departure for Bordeaux has only hastened their need for reinforcements at the heart of their backline as Unai Emery looks to build on a fifth-placed finish last term.

However, they are now set to turn their attentions towards David Luiz, with the club’s new technical director Edu understood to be close to the 32-year-old’s entourage.

David Luiz also has a close relationship with Arsenal boss Emery after working with him at PSG in between his two spells at Stamford Bridge.

This development comes despite Luiz having only just agreed to sign a new two-year contract in west London in May following protracted negotiations lasting several months.

The deal was the first two-year contract to be offered to a player over the age of 30 since 2011 after a policy was implemented to restrict older players to one-year rolling agreements.

In terms of how David Luiz’s potential departure would leave Frank Lampard’s defensive options, it may scupper Fikayo Tomori’s prospective loan move to Everton, with the former Derby County loanee likely required to fill the gap left in the squad alongside Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Kurt Zouma.

Only Zouma played more minutes as a center-back than David Luiz during Lampard’s first pre-season in charge of the club, though the ex-Benfica star was left out of the starting line-up for the club’s final friendly of the summer against Borussia Monchengladbach.

August 7, 2019 Inter Milan virtually signing Romelu Lukaku after elevated bid

Inter Milan virtually signing Romelu Lukaku after elevated bid

Inter Milan are close to signing Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku after submitting an improved bid.

In July, United rejected Inter’s £54m bid for Lukaku, who has been fined by the club after missing training without permission on Tuesday.

Belgium international Lukaku, 26, has trained at his former team Anderlecht for the past two days.

Lukaku’s agent, Federico Pastorello, flew to London on Wednesday in an attempt to resolve his future

The clubs had been some way apart in their valuation of the striker, with United wanting to recoup at least the £75m they paid Everton two years ago.

Inter and fellow Serie A side Juventus have been competing to sign the forward, who did not play in the Premier League club’s pre-season matches because of injury.

Inter manager Antonio Conte has previously confirmed the striker remains his number one target, saying: “I consider him a player who could improve our team.”
